Here you will find important notes about class and links that are useful for homework.

Arabic Booklet

• Every week students must memorize the phrase taught and class, as well as write and memorize the translation in their own words.

Prayer Charts

• Students are required to print this on their own.
• Any Xs will result in an “Unprepared” ($10 penalty) and students will have to make up prayers during break.
• Students with less than __ (TBD) Ls and No Xs will be eligible for a prize at the end of the semester.

(3/23/19):

• Homework:
  • Discussion Homework
    • Watch recording of the Khutbah
    • Summarize the 3 key takeaways at the end of the Khutbah
    • Write one practical think you can do for each of the 3 points

(3/9/19):

• Homework:
  • Write down (with a pencil or pen) the definition, 3 synonyms, and a sentence using the following words.
    • Peace
    • Safety
    • Protection
    • Mercy
    • Blessing
• EC:
  • Memorize the duʾā for salāt al-janāzah(the funeral prayer).

(3/2/19):

• Homework:
  • Practice, memorize, and write the Arabic and English phrases from the Prayer Booklet.
  • Teach someone about the first two parts of al-Taḥiyyāt (for Allāh & The Prophet ﷺ).
    • Include the rewards and blessings of sending ṣalāh on The Prophet ﷺ.

Week 5 (2/9/19):

• EC $10 for writing a whole page on one of the following (EC for as many as you turn in - $70 total): Biography of one of the first few Muslims: Zayd ibn al-Ḥārithah, Ṭalḥah ibn ʿUbaydillāh, Zubayr ibn al-ʿAwwām, Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf, Ibn Masʿūd, or Bilal.

Week 4 (2/2/19): Activity Day - Lazer Quest

Week 3 (1/26/19):

• Homework:
  • Write about your thoughts or summary of Islam, Evolution, and Darwinism (or click here.)

  • $10: Changing in the locker room in a ḥalāl, and modest way for the whole week.

Week 2 (1/19/19):

• Quiz:
  • Oral and written quiz on Sūrah al-Fātiḥah. You will be tested on the Arabic, English, and basic points.

• Homework:
  • Write a full translation of Sūrah al-Fātiḥah in your own words. For each verse, mention 1 benefit.
  • What do you think Ghusl is? When do you have to make Ghusl? How do you make Ghusl?
  • Study Seerah Notes
• EC
  • $10-20: Present what you’ve learned about Sūrah al-Fātiḥah in a fun, creative way.

Week 1 (1/12/19):

• Homework:
  • How you do make use of your: (1) young age, (2) strength/health, (3) money: food/clothes/house/phone, and (4) free time.
• EC
  • $5: Teach one person about the 2 Sunnah’s of rain

Semester 1

Final exam review (12/08/18):

• $5-$25: Come up with a creative way to show/teach something you’ve learned this semester.
• $10: Write 300+ words talking about an instance of blasphemy, and how you did/will/could respond to better the situation.
• $20 [Sīrah]: Create a 7-10 minute presentation to summarize the main points of everything we have talked about so far and present it in class. You will need to turn in a written version of your presentation before presenting. If too many people do this extra credit, the written version will still be due in class, but I will hear your presentations outside of class via voice recording.
• $20 for Rebuttle/Defense of arguments made in Halloween article.
• $15 for memorizing the noble lineage of RasūlAllāh ﷺ
• $5 for Notes or $10 for 300 Word Essay on Robert Davilla Video
• $5/week: No lates on prayer chart

Week 10 (12/08/18):

• Homework:
  1. Write a page about what you think about looking at and interacting with girls, watching inappropriate videos, the struggles you might have, and how you might deal with them. Is it okay to stare at girls, watch “bad” snaps, or dirty movies? What do you do, or how do you feel about your friends who date, have sex, or watch porn?

Week 9 (12/01/18):

• Homework:
  1. Write proper flowing English translation on first 7 phrases in Ṣalāh Booklet.
     • From اَللهُ أَكْبَرُ to إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِيْنُ
  2. EC Write a page about what you think about looking at and interacting with girls, watching inappropriate videos, the struggles you might have, and how you might deal with them.   3. Study for finals

• Homework: Watch video & take notes on Sh. Ahmad AlKurdy | “Blasphemy, Wind & Fire” | IOK Khutbah
  • Watch from the 19:00 minute mark of the video until the end.

Week 4:

• HW: Basmalah & Opening Supplication from Prayer Booklet.
• HW: Read the WhatsApp co-founder Jan Koum is leaving Facebook after clashing over data privacy
• Think about the following questions:
  1. Is it okay that Facebook takes our information?
  2. Should we be putting information we do not want people to know on social media?
  3. As a Muslim, do you think, ethically, we should be allowed to look at other peoples’ information if they signed the terms and services?
  4. Should we use the apps and programs that mine and use our information?
• EC: $20 for Rebuttle/Defense of arguments made in Halloween article.

Week 3:

• HW: Watch Video & Take Notes on Natural Disasters The Islamic Response - Mufti Menk
